Jumper ant allergy

Jumper ants [Myrmecia pilosula] are responsible for major allergic reactions, often life-threatening, in 2% to 3% of the rural and semi-rural population in parts of Australia.

There is an effective vaccine to provide immunity for victims who have severe anaphylaxis. It has been tested scientifically and works. Currently the vaccine is available in Tasmania as part of an on-going trial, and in certain teaching hospitals on the mainland for patients with very severe anaphylaxis.
